Internship: Orientation

Hi,

These past month has been insanely busy for me. I ended finals on the first week of May then soon after I had orientation for my internship and now I'm going to interning for the next 12 weeks.

Orientation

My orientation took place a Mariott Hotel which was a very nice place. I had a room to myself and as you can see there's even a couch. My dad and brother dropped me off so thats why there's my dad in the picture above.

The fitness center was quite good as well. There was plenty of towel available to wipe off sweat and a scale for weighing. The only downside was that the equipment was a little bit old.

Here is the view from the pool area which can be seen from the fitness room. Like I had said before the hotel had plenty of towels.

There is a little station for coffee and tea like most hotel and that I love to utilize.

A intern who was on his second rotation organized a get together for anyone who wanted to get food at Bdubs. Overall the dinner was good and I got to meet lots of great people!

Have a great rest of the day :D

XOXO,

M

Why Disaffliation/Deactivating from My Chapter Was the Best Decision I Made

Have you ever walked in a room full of 40-50 people you know and yet feel like you have no friends?

That's how I felt regularly as I sit in chapter every week. After thinking about it for awhile I have decided to disaffiliating and here are my reasons:

  • Chapter
    • Being in a sorority is a time commitment. We have chapter at 6pm every Sunday and that lasts until at least 8. When we used to have it at our house I would need to leave 45 min before hand to get there. I always get there early because I don't like to be late. Even though it probably takes me a half hour to get back. When I add up the time thats more than an hour of traveling time.
    • It takes me a long time to get to the house, because of my classes it was more convenient for me to live on the other side of campus. I was never close enough with any of the sisters on northside to walk together to chapter. I never minded walking to chapter on good sunny days but there were times when the weather wasn't so good. I remember when I had walk in the cold day when the air was freezing and the ground was slippery.
    • Even though chapter changed location this past year, it's still on the other side of campus and takes me 25 minutes to get there.
    • I feel like the mandatory recrutiment clinics are the most useless things ever. Why do I need to learn how to talk to someone? I remember that when I interviewed with a bank, the CFO told be that technical skills you can learn but it's those soft skills that you can't have no matter what you do.
  • Sisterhood
    • There's two instances where I'll always remember.
      • Last year I wasn't feeling well at all on a Sunday. I emailed the secretary at that time and she told me that it would not count as a valid excuse unless I can't physically get out of my bed.
      • The other incident happened last semester during our retreat before classes began. I can't express enough that I hated cabin camping especially since we did it in a children's camp and the beds were really tiny. I like the outdoors but just not sleeping overnight. I couldn't sleep at the night and it was hot and I felt awful but that was beside the point. We were paired up with another sister, During dinner time I don't exactly what we were talking about but this particular sister told me that I should drop out of college.
      • Both of these girls had already graduated but it made me think that do I really want to spend time with people similar to them?
  • Friends
    • I was having a meeting with the president of one of the organizations I in today and what he said to me about greek life was so insightful. When you join a large organization it's very easy to say that everyone is your "friends" but in truth are they really? Spending a lot of time together doesn't equal friendship but that doesn't mean that you don't eventually make friends. What he said really applied to me. I only have a couple of my sister phone number and the ones I text I can count on my two fingers. I never hang out with any of my sisters outside of chapter. Maybe its because I'm difficult to be close with or my personality isn't compatible with the girls in my sorority. I believe myself to be an extrovert not because I'm very vocal or talkative it's because being around people energizes me. If I'm around people who are very talkative then I become very talkative also but when I hang with people who don't then I don't talk as much either.
    • The girls in the sorority are pretty negative people and complain constantly. After awhile that gets really tiring.
  • Sorority
    • What does my sorority mean to me? I ponder about that often. It was kinda nice in the beginning but then it slowly became more and more just going to regular meetings. I already have at least 5 meetings per week for the other orgs I'm in. Everything we isn't special anymore and just blends.
    • I pay $450 a semester for dues whereas I pay around $100 for my business fraternity and zero for RHA.
    • The Greek Life here is greatly regulated because of bad publicity. There's a lot of rules and restriction.
In the end I never cared for the chapter and the chapter never cared about me. Greek life wasn't worth the time and money and finally but most importantly not for me. As more time passed it confirms that my decision was correct. I now have flexibility in my schedule that allows me to go to things that I don't have to and have my weekends back.

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramble!

Review Yesstyle Order and Amazon Boots

Hi guys,

As you can see my package finally came! I'm so happy to finally see the items I bought.

It came in this small box.

Everything was tightly packed when I opened it. I'm glad that they had a pouch that covered the box. I always appreciate good packaging.

The first time I'm going to show you is the convertible scarf. The tag was in Japanese so I assumed that this brand is a Japanese brand.

The scarf was exactly like it was pictured in the website. Actually I'm wearing it right now as we speak. It's not very thick but comfortable and light.

The open cardigan was also very nice.

The material is thick for the summer but perfect to wear indoors in the winter and I really like this color too.

My mask came in this packaging and I haven't used it yet.

It also came with a free BB cream sample though I don't really use much on my face but I'll try it sometime. The picture below are the box and below it is the individual mask.

I bought these black boots in Amazon. I have been looking for short boots for awhile because calf length boots are either too expensive or poorly made. So I was browsing around amazon when I found these boots. They were about $30. The reviews were pretty mixed. Some found nails while other thought it was best boots ever. I waited quite awhile before I decided to purchase these boots.  I remember seeing in some reviews that they bought these boots less than $30 so I just saved it in my shopping cart. Over winter break these price were jump up a little bit and I remember at the high point it reached to price of over $50 per pair! A week ago I saw that these boots were selling at around $27 then the price decreased. In the end I bought it for $26.65 and now it's selling about $28.

The boots looked like it did in pictures. It is a bit hard to put the shoe on but the shoe itself was pretty wide. When I walked outside the other day I was fine but big chunks of salt did get into my shoe. Overall I was pretty satisfied with my shoes with the price.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog.

Real Talk: Scammer Joe

Hi all,

Today I'm going to tell you a real life story that happened to me recently. I have been back to classes for this past week. As most college students I have to buy expensive and thick textbooks. At this point I have ordered most of textbooks. For my business law class on the syllabus it said that I needed textbook. A kid that had taken this class last year named Joe (I will refer to him as Scammer Joe through the rest of the post) offered to sell me his textbook.

A little background on Scammer Joe:

I met him a year ago when we took two classes together and I ended up near him in the smaller class. I was the initiated the conversation and introduced myself. Joe was decent looking but had an oddly low voice. He was a BME major but discovered during his sophomore year that it was too difficult for him and switched to be an accounting major. I have always been really nice and tried to talk to him on various occasions as he can be very shy.

The other day Scammer Joe sent me a email and said that he still had his textbook. He said he would meet me in the business building to get the book. Then I met him and he showed the book to me. The Scammer Joe had an older edition of the book. He claimed that I can still use the book as he did and he said that he had received an "A" for the class. When I asked him how much I owed him he said $50. I said ok and that I would give him the money the next time. Before I left he told me to not flake at him.

Later I went and searched how much his edition of the book cost as well as the newer edition.

Scammer Joe's twelfth edition on amazon:
  • buy new: $65.98
  • buy old: $9.98
  • rent: $18.49

The newer thirteenth edition on amazon.
  • buy new: $169.99
  • buy old: $150.15
  • rent $34.47
As you can see Scammer Joe tried to make about $40 off of me when I can get the book on amazon for way less. The newer version is even cheaper to rent than the price he's offering me. Do he think I'm stupid and don't know how to use the internet?

I sent him an email explaining that I will not be buying his book and will return his book back to him the next time I see him. I thought he was good person but it was my misjudgment of character.

Have a great day!

XOXO

Yesstyle Order

Hi!

I recently made a purchase on Yesstyle. They were having sales and offered free shipping for orders over $35. I bought a convertible scarf ($13.47), open front cardigan ($11.97),  and a box of masks($11.12). This is the first time I made a purchase from this website.
Scarf: Baimomo
The reason I liked about this scarf is it's convertible feature. The buttons change the scarf into a light poncho and I always need scarfs anyway.

This is the cardigan I got in grey. I didn't want more black so it was either grey or red. Since the holidays are over I thought grey would be a better color. It seemed like a cute cardigan I can wear with leggings. Since I don't button up my cardigans anyway the open front feature doesn't bother me.

Lastly I bought a mask from the brand My Scheming. Since the masks here are super expensive I decided to get a box from yesstyle. The mask is called L-Ascorbic Acid Brightening Mask.

Once my items arrive I will do a full review.

XOXO

Summary of 2015

At the beautiful gazebo located downtown in my city
Hello!

My winter break has finally ended and I'm heading back to school today. For my sorority we have recruitment bootcamp Saturday and Sunday. Basically this half of the year has been decent.

School related things:
After numerous applications in the end I was able to get 6 interviews: 4 accounting position practicums, 1 finance summer internship, and 1 finance and accounting summer internship. I received 1 offer from the finance and accounting position so I will have a place to intern at for the summer!

As for classes I did ok but not as well as I hoped for but I will try harder this semester to improve my grades. I can't believe that this semester will be be last semester taking core classes needed for my major. Next fall I will be finishing up my undergrad classes which includes capstone and electives. I also need to declare my finance minor and apply for the masters program.

Winter break:

This break I was able to hangout of with my friends from high school. Everyone seemed to be doing well. We went to the new Bdubs and the wings were spicy but overall a great experience.

The wings I got were had the honey BBQ sauce

I went to Wholefoods recently because my brother wanted orange juice. I was really craving chocolate so I picked up a bar.

I really like this dark chocolate. Since it was only 56%, the taste wasnt very bitter.

The bakery section I can only look but not buy
I'm so happy to be able to buy cupcake from Babycakes again :D

Butter Pecan: buttery taste and I loved the pecans

Strawberry Champagne: very smooth and the frosting was very glossy
On the day after Christmas we went to the outlet mall to see if there was any sales.  I got this bright vest and a grey cardigan. The vest is super warm because it is made from down and also it was half off and the cardigan is a nice thick material.

Vest: Nike
Cardigan: Tommy Hilfiger
Of course every time I come back I have to go to the mall. I was able to get two similar dresses from H&M. One is a half sleeves black dress while the one is sleeveless dark blue. I don't remember the cost of each dress but my total was under $27. Me and my sister also dropped by Gloria Jean's to get some chillers. I got my usual ultimate cookie chiller which was delicious as always. I posted the picture below on instagram and got featured on the Gloria Jean's instagram page :D

Left: Ultimate Cookie Chiller
Right: Macadoodle Chiller
Awhile back after the last week of classes my boss and her assistant treated me and my co-workers to lunch, We went to this restaurant that was on campus. The food is decent but not my favorite place to go.

philly steak with no mushrooms and sweet potato fries
I was able to meet up with my best friend from high school and we got crepes as usual. You've probably seen this crepe before in my blog.

Fruit Lovers Crepe
To end this post off I will include my 2016 goals.

  • Fitness: to get a abs
    • workout once a week
    • utilize my yoga mat
    • eat healthy (severely limit junk food)
  • School: not get a "C" in any classes
